Hi, Joel – Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic of discussion. And you are so right, it is a discussion, not a blanket statement.

I firmly believe that we, as Christians, are free to pick up the books we want to read, secular or Christian. And I agree that each person has to decide what the line is they will stay in when it comes to books – and that line is very personal. It’s like alcohol – it isn’t in itself a bad thing, yet there are some who should decide to avoid it completely while others can enjoy a glass or two a day in a healthy manner.

I also believe that secular books can allow Christians to have conversations with not-yet-believers on topics they are comfortable with and work up to more serious Gospel topics without sounding fake and aggressive.

Tara, same here. Praying others would see the opportunity that their singleness provides which in turn really sets them up for success and maturity if/when God brings a future spouse into their life.

Miranda, my wife and I got married young also :). We have 3 little boys under 5 so just behind you guys! I think creating and sticking to that balance of ministry and family is so vitally important.

This is such great advice. I have never really been single, since I had a baby and got married at such a young age. I am now married with 5 kids, and though I do serve in ministry, I have to be intentional to carve out the time. Sometimes I have to say no to new opportunities because my first responsibility is to my husband and children. Great points here!
